Evolution of GTBank's International Spending Limits

The current $40,000 quarterly limit represents a substantial increase from previous caps. Nigerian banks, including GTBank, resumed international transactions on Naira cards in 2025, following a suspension of approximately three years ².

Initially, when GTBank restored the service, the quarterly international spending limit was set at $1,000 ²⁵. At that time, ATM withdrawals were capped at $500, and online or POS transactions were limited to $1,000 per quarter ²⁴.

Over time, these limits have seen several upward revisions:

• August 2026: Doubled from $20,000 to $40,000 quarterly ⁶.

This latest increase to $40,000 marks a 100 percent jump from the $20,000 quarterly cap as of August 10, 2026, and a 566.7 percent increase from the $6,000 limit introduced in May 2026 ⁶.
