Key Findings of the Investigation

The BBC World Service's investigation uncovered that these advertisements utilized terms such as "rape video" and "child video" ¹²⁷. These ads were designed to direct users to channels on the messaging app Telegram, where such illicit content is shared ¹²⁷.

Crucially, the investigation highlighted a significant failure in Meta's moderation systems, as these paid advertisements were approved by Instagram and went live on the platform ³⁶⁸.
