How Silicosis is Linked to Quartz Countertops

The link between silicosis and quartz countertops arises from the manufacturing and fabrication processes of engineered quartz products. While quartz is a naturally occurring mineral, engineered quartz countertops contain a significantly higher concentration of silica compared to natural stones like granite ⁹.

During the cutting, grinding, and polishing of these engineered quartz slabs, fine silica dust is released into the air ⁹. Workers who inhale this dust over prolonged periods are at a high risk of developing silicosis.
