🔥 Gündem SpaceX Rocket Debris Crashes on the Moon, Revealing New Secrets?

On August 7, 2026, an abandoned upper stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket impacted the Moon, creating a new crater on its surface ³². This event was anticipated by scientists for months, offering a rare opportunity to study a lunar impact ³⁵.

The Journey of the Debris

The rocket stage, which was part of a commercial mission, had been in space as part of thousands of other pieces of space junk ¹⁴. Astronomers had been tracking its trajectory and determined earlier in the year that it was headed for the Moon ¹. Julianna Scheiman from SpaceX was not overly concerned about the impending crash ¹.

The Impact

The impact occurred at an estimated speed of 5,400 mph (approximately 8,700 km/h) ³. This collision caused a plume of debris to erupt and left a new crater on the lunar surface ²³.

Scientific Observation

Scientists had planned to study the aftermath of this collision ³. NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and South Korea's Danuri lunar orbiter are expected to capture before-and-after images of the impact site ³. These observations will help researchers understand more about lunar impacts, which are typically unpredictable when caused by natural objects like meteoroids ³⁵. This event provided a unique opportunity for controlled observation of a lunar impact ⁵.
