🔥 Gündem Whalefall (Film): What You Need to Know

Whalefall is a phenomenon that occurs when a whale dies and its carcass sinks to the ocean floor ¹²⁵. This event is a significant source of concentrated nutrients and organic material, providing a sudden and substantial food source for deep-sea ecosystems ²⁵⁸.

The decomposition of a whale carcass on the seabed supports a succession of marine life and can sustain a diverse community for decades ²⁵⁶. Different stages of decomposition attract various organisms, including scavengers, chemosynthetic bacteria, and bone-eating worms, creating a unique and localized ecosystem ¹⁶⁸. This process is a natural part of the ocean's cycle of life and death, supplying nutrients to the deep sea from the surface waters ²⁵.
