🔥 Gündem Whalefall Official Trailer - Watch Now!

"Whalefall" refers to the phenomenon where the carcass of a whale sinks to the ocean floor, creating a unique and complex ecosystem that provides sustenance for deep-sea organisms for extended periods ¹⁶⁷. These events typically occur at depths greater than 1,000 meters (3,300 feet), in the bathyal or abyssal zones of the ocean ⁶. The decaying whale body acts as a concentrated food source, supporting a diverse community of scavengers and specialized creatures, including bone-eating worms, for decades ⁷.

Beyond its ecological meaning, "Whalefall" is also the title of a recently released novel by Daniel Kraus. This novel tells the story of a scuba diver who, while searching for his deceased father's remains, is swallowed by a sperm whale. He then has only an hour of oxygen to find a way to escape, turning his deep-sea adventure into a race against time ³¹⁰.
