Understanding UFC Rankings and Titles

The UFC, founded in 1993, is the premier mixed martial arts organization globally, featuring over 600 competitors ⁷. UFC rankings, introduced in February 2013, are determined by a voting panel of media members who rank fighters by weight class and pound-for-pound ¹. These rankings help establish contender status, but the official championship title is only held by the fighter who has won the championship belt in a title bout.
