🔥 Gündem Zak Butters Trade Rumors: Craig McRae's Involvement and Port Adelaide's Future

As of late August 2026, Zak Butters, the vice-captain and dual All-Australian player for Port Adelaide, has confirmed his intention to request a trade to Victoria, solidifying what had been widely speculated throughout the season ¹⁴⁵⁶. This move has significant implications for the upcoming off-season trade period.

Butters' decision to return home to Victoria has sparked a fierce competition among several Victorian clubs. Richmond, Geelong, Collingwood, and the Western Bulldogs have all emerged as potential suitors, leading to what has been described as a public bidding war ². This competition is expected to increase Butters' contract value and give Port Adelaide leverage in negotiating a trade ².

While Collingwood is among the clubs interested in Butters, reports indicate that he will not be joining them despite their interest ⁷. Butters himself has stated that he is still deciding on his new club and will work through the process with his manager and family ⁸. As a restricted free agent, Port Adelaide retains the option to match any deal Butters signs, which would then force a trade ⁸.

Craig McRae, currently the head coach of the Collingwood Football Club ⁹, is indirectly involved in these rumors due to Collingwood's interest in Butters. However, the primary focus of recent news surrounding McRae has been his comments regarding the future of Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury, whose retirement decision is reportedly "50-50" ¹⁰. There are no direct trade rumors linking McRae with Butters in a personal capacity; his involvement stems from his role as the coach of a club vying for Butters' services.
